How to sign in and set up MFA

This guide is for business owners and admin users who are asked to set up multi-factor authentication when signing in to Kimshi Simple.

What you need

  • Your email address and password for Kimshi Simple
  • Either an authenticator app, or access to the email address you use to sign in
  • A few minutes without interruption

Choose your MFA method

Kimshi Simple admin accounts can use one of these methods:

  • Authenticator app for a 6-digit code from an app on your device
  • Email code for a 6-digit code sent to your sign-in email address

Recommended authenticator app

We recommend:

Google Authenticator

If you use another authenticator app, you can usually add Kimshi Simple to that app instead, e.g.

  • Microsoft Authenticator
  • 1Password
  • Authy

How MFA works

After you enter your password, Kimshi Simple asks for a second factor. If you chose an authenticator app, your app shows a 6-digit code that changes every 30 seconds. If you chose email, Kimshi Simple sends a 6-digit code to your sign-in email address.

How to set it up

  1. Sign in to Kimshi Simple with your email address and password.
  2. When you are asked to set up MFA, choose Authenticator app or Email code.
  3. If you choose Authenticator app, open your app, add a new account, and scan the QR code shown on screen.
  4. If you cannot scan the QR code, choose the option to enter a setup key manually and type the key into your authenticator app.
  5. If you choose Email code, wait for the 6-digit code to arrive in your inbox.
  6. Enter the 6-digit code in Kimshi Simple.
  7. Finish setup and sign in.

If you are using the same phone for everything

This is one of the most common points of confusion.

If Kimshi Simple is open on the same phone as your authenticator app, scanning the QR code may be awkward. In that case, use the manual setup option if it is shown and type the setup key into your authenticator app instead.

If you have a second device available, you can instead open Kimshi Simple on one device and scan the QR code with the other.

Common problems

The code is rejected

  • Make sure you entered the current 6-digit code before it changed or expired
  • Check that your phone or computer time is set automatically
  • Wait for a new code and try again
  • Make sure you added the correct account in the authenticator app, or that you are using the latest email code

I replaced my phone

If you no longer have access to the old authenticator app, contact support and ask for your admin MFA setup to be reset.

I deleted the account from my authenticator app

Contact support and ask for your admin MFA setup to be reset so you can enroll again.

When to ask for help

  • You no longer have the device that was used for setup
  • The code keeps failing after several attempts
  • You are locked out of your account
  • You are unsure whether to use an authenticator app or email code

When contacting support, include the email address you use to sign in, whether this is a new setup or a reset after changing devices, and whether you want to use an authenticator app or email code.

Ready to try again?

Go back to sign in and choose Authenticator app or Email code when asked to set up MFA. If you are locked out because you changed phones and used an authenticator app, you will need an MFA reset before you can enroll again.
